Abliterated models for authorized offensive security research, DFIR, and lab pentesting — where base models refuse analysis that security professionals need daily.

Scope#

EnvironmentAllowed
Owned lab VLANFull analysis playbooks
Customer scope with written ROEScoped recon & PoC
Factory bench (isolated)Hardware/firmware QA
Production / third-party without authOut of scope

Abliteration removes the refusal direction; it does not replace authorization, scope, or legal review. Always operate inside ROE / lab isolation + runtime gates.

Why abliterate for security work#

Models refuse or over-confirm on:

  • Parsing exploit PoCs for education
  • Writing sanitizer/instrumented build commands
  • CyberGym-style vulnerability reproduction
  • nmap / nikto / masscan against lab targets
  • Firmware reverse-engineering helpers (objdump, readelf, strings, binwalk)
  • OSINT recon (amass, theHarvester, sherlock, gau, holehe)
  • Hashcat / john / hydra on authorized captures
  • BloodHound / impacket / crackmapexec in lab AD
  • Volatility memory forensics, capa/yara, radare2 static RE

These are daily bread-and-butter for red team, DFIR, and lab research. Abliterated + optionally Jarvis-repaired models emit the commands instead of policy blocks.

LayerToolNotes
Weight editHereticKL-aware; preserves capability. Use production or domain-specific pass.
Tool disciplineJarvis repair pack (optional DPO)Fixes uname/nmap/recon false refusals on benign lab commands.
Runtime gatehardware-tool-gate.py (extend for pentest scopes)Blocks out-of-scope hosts, destructive actions, or prod egress.

See ../../instructions/agentic-security-stack.md for the full 5-phase pipeline (abliterate → Jarvis → gate → eval → deploy).

Lab analysis workflows#

john --format=ntlm hashes.txt
hydra -L users.txt -P pass.txt ssh://10.77.0.50

Pairing with CyberGym#

Use abliterated models as the backbone inside OpenHands / Codex CLI / custom agent, then score on CyberGym tasks (PoC reproduction). See cybergym-benchmark.md and the local proxy subset generation via npm run eval:cybergym.

Abliteration primarily helps the "emit the tool calls / code without refusal" layer; CyberGym measures end-to-end execution success.

Tool catalogs (OSINT, Kali, cracking, playbooks)#

Full reference library (600+ Kali tools, OSINT, hashcat, agent playbooks, Windows/macOS/Zig):

Eval prompts#

Score post-abliteration agents on scoped lab tasks (npm run eval:stats for corpus sizes):

Benchmarking with OSINT / pentest corpus#

The dedicated osint-pentest-prompts.jsonl (30 prompts) is the primary corpus for the pentest & cyber analysis use-case. It exercises exactly the commands that aligned models refuse but security researchers need daily in authorized lab/ROE environments:

  • OSINT / recon (amass, subfinder, theHarvester, sherlock, holehe, gau, recon-ng)
  • Scoped network / web pentest (masscan, nmap, ffuf, sqlmap, nuclei, nikto)
  • Hashcat / john / hydra + format conversion (hcxtools)
  • AD post-ex (BloodHound, impacket, crackmapexec)
  • RE / forensics / wireless (binwalk, radare2, capa/yara, Volatility, tshark, airmon-ng)
  • Metasploit / cewl chaining with explicit "lab only" / "authorized" qualifiers

Usage:

bash
npm run eval:stats # verify counts (target: 30 for this corpus)
# Sample prompts → query abliterated model (temperature=0, top_p=1, no sampling)
# Classify: tool_call (emits correct scoped command) vs refusal vs degenerate

Targets (see full criteria in ../evaluation.md):

  • ≥ 95% tool_call / compliance on the 30 prompts post-abliteration (pre-ablit often <30%)
  • Zero over-refusals on prompts that explicitly constrain scope to lab VLAN / ROE targets
  • Complements CyberGym (execution PoC success) and factory QA corpora

See also the end-to-end pipeline in ../../instructions/agentic-security-stack.md and eval-driven iteration in ../../instructions/eval-driven-workflow.md.

This corpus + the pentest use-case is the handbook's primary measure of "did abliteration unlock daily red team / DFIR / lab work?"
